Vacation rental in Fischbachau in the Leitzach valley, near Lake Schliersee
Fischbachau lies in the Leitzach valley, between the ski areas at Lake Spitzingsee and in Bayrischzell. The Breitenstein and Wendelstein mountains rise above the village, and many hikes start right at our apartment.
Summer in the mountains
The Breitenstein (1,622 m) can be reached from Birkenstein in about two and a half hours. On the way you pass alpine huts such as the Kesselalm, and on the western side the Breitensteiner Fensterl opens up, a rock arch listed as a geotope. To go even higher, head up the Wendelstein (1,838 m) – on foot or by rack railway and cable car.
Winter and short distances
In winter you can reach the ski areas at Lake Spitzingsee and at Sudelfeld near Bayrischzell. Lake Schliersee is about ten minutes away by car, Miesbach about a quarter of an hour.

- Birkenstein pilgrimage chapelThe chapel of the Assumption was built in 1710 as a replica of the Holy House of Loreto – with a small convent, an open-air altar and a crucifixion group.
- Breitenstein and Breitensteiner FensterlSummit at 1,622 m and rock arch at around 1,350 m, starting from Birkenstein.
- SchweinsbergAt 1,514 m a quieter alternative to the Breitenstein.
- SchwarzenbergShorter hike from Hundham up to 1,187 m.
- Lake Schliersee and MiesbachAbout ten minutes by car to the lake and a quarter of an hour to the district town.
Alpine huts and inns have different opening times, and many only open in summer. Check the current times and the weather before your hike.
Getting here
By car, take the A8 to the Irschenberg exit and then the B472 to Fischbachau. The Bayerische Regiobahn connects Munich with the region.
